Open-source macOS push-to-talk dictation that types into any app using your own OpenAI API key.
What it does
Murmur
Murmur (MIT) is a lightweight macOS menu-bar app: hold a hotkey, speak and release, and your words are transcribed and typed into whatever app has focus. It records locally and sends audio to OpenAI's speech-to-text API with your own key, which the author estimates at about US$0.27 per hour of speech, and it offers a custom vocabulary and an optional cleanup pass. You build it from source with Xcode; macOS 14 or later is required.
